This was a concept for a comic I’ve been sitting on for a while. technically it was the prototype for Tad Danger: Substitute Ranger. I rehashed a lot of ideas for it and retrofitted them into Tad. Formally titled “Dark Lord Dan”, it was a comic about a Saturday Morning cartoon villain, equal parts Eggman and Cobra Commander, attempting to conquer the world. Except the world is already in a constant state of war from real actual warlords. The idea was that he was literally a lesser of two evils. When he conquered a nation, he ironically made it better, because his brand of villainy was childish and tame compared to the monsters that were running the place previously.

He had a crew of henchmen that would function as his supporting cast. Valerie, his second in command is the brains of the operation. Her goal is to keep Dan on his path of destruction in order to make the world a better place. This means that she has to play into his delusion of villainy completely. He personality shifts between over the top femme fatale, and overworked office secretary just trying to keep the place afloat. She knows that if he realizes he is actually helping people, he would stop. Dave is their ‘hostage’ that they took, whom is the crew’s engineer. He designs all the wild robots for Dan to pilot. He is a deadpan cynic, who puts little to no effort into anything really. Even his acting to placate Dan is without effort. Despite this he is a genius mechanic that can build anything. Finally there is Francesca, the crew’s doctor. She is a sadistic mad doctor with a french accent that only tags along to conduct experiments on the teams defeated enemies. She is also responsible for keeping Dan alive. That said, ,she constantly experiments on him as well, but Dan is happy to try anything for a lollipop.

The mood of the comic was meant to be very early 2000’s. Needlessly edgy to the point of parody, and laser targeted for the Hot Topic audience. Stupid, violent, and a little romantic.
